Testimonials

Our daughter is an avid, talented volleyball player who at times got frustrated on the court and would struggle to keep it together. Dr. Coakley was instrumental in helping us, as parents, understand the importance of mental toughness in sports. She framed the term mental toughness as a set of skills that could be learned and practiced just like physical skills. Our daughter saw Dr. Coakley for a total of 15 sessions via Skype (we live in another state) which were very successful. Our daughter developed a mental game plan for practice and for competition. The crying and obvious frustration on the court, gave way to:

  • Deep breathing to gain control or maintain composure
  • The ability to stay focused
  • Positive thoughts and attitude
  • Digging deep when the going got tough
  • Being looked upon as a leader by her teammates
  • Becoming a happier child both on and off the court

She received letters of interest from D1 coaches in her freshman year. I firmly believe that the mental side of the game is usually taken for granted and is often ignored. We tend to think that people are born with mental toughness. Dr. Coakley was able to connect with our daughter who wanted to grow and develop her overall game (I must admit that she was a bit skeptical at first).  Since then we have paid more attention to professional athletes. Serena Williams who is considered one of the best female athletes in the world, attributes her greatness to her mental toughness.  As parents we were very pleased with the growth that we saw in our daughter and we are thankful for the edge in her game that Dr. Coakley has helped her develop. For us it made a huge difference.  The Sports psychologist along with the coach could help with the development of each athlete’s overall game.

Having worked with Stephany Coakley for more than 10 years, it is hard to envision not using her services as a Sports Mental Health Expert. Starting as a junior tennis player and working my way up the professional tennis ladder, she has constantly found new ways to help me bring a higher level of focus when it comes to stepping on the court and competing. Constantly producing new ideas and techniques, Stephany always seems to be one step ahead of the field which allows me to compete at the highest level possible. Her talents do not end there as I have even had the pleasure of working with her during times of injury where she has helped me in dealing with the mental battles that come with the injury and recovery process by setting small but attainable goals. Her services have consistently proved to be invaluable and aid in helping me reach my goals of being a top ranked tennis professional.

Stephany is a creative and sensitive facilitator. As a sports psychologist, she understood the challenges that my son faced as a tennis player in a sport that initially did not encourage his participation. Stephany worked with my son for three years, and not only did she help him raise his level of play, she guided him to understanding his purpose in life and worked with him to elevate his self-esteem. She has had significant global cultural experiences and reads voraciously. A skilled and articulate communicator, Stephany listens well and is a gifted diagnostician with respect to dissecting the issues her clients face. – Client’s Parent

I was surprised and impressed at how much preparation and study Stephany put into learning the finer points of my sport – auto racing. She took time to understand the special challenges that race driving presents, listened well, and tailored her approach in order to maximize our results. She stays in touch between sessions and takes a sincere interest in her subject’s learning and progress. All I can say is that something is working because I’ve been thrilled with the results. I really didn’t know that mental conditioning could have such a dramatic effect in open practice, qualifying, and racing. I unreservedly recommend Stephany. – Client

I engaged MMT when my daughter was having trouble with consistency of play on the volleyball court and dealing with the stress of school, college selection and life in general. Stephany was wonderful with her so easy to talk to and really helped my daughter through a tough junior and senior year. Much of what Stephany talked with her about still helps her out today as a freshman in college and really helped her start to focus on the things that she could control rather than worrying about the things she could not both on the court and in life. Thanks Stephany – You are terrific and we really appreciate all your time. – Client’s Parent
